Exclusive Photo Safaris New for 2012

We are excited to be leading two all-inclusive, luxury four night photographic safaris in Kwandwe, a Relais & Chateaux Big Five private game reserve in South Africa's Eastern Cape. This fantastic reserve is situated in 22,000 hectares of beautiful, malaria-free bushveld within easy reach of the Garden Route's popular attractions.

One Day Hawk & Owl Photo Workshops

There are one or two places left on our popular hawk & owl one day photographic workshops next spring. Spend the day photographing birds of prey in the natural settings and stunning countryside of rural Cumbria, with the two of us on hand to help and guide you. More dates planned for the autumn, so watch this space.

The big snip

Our most recent trip to South Africa saw us capturing unique and exclusive images of pioneering keyhole surgery used to perform vasectomies on 14 wild elephants in the middle of the African bush.

A team of top animal surgeons from the USA and South Africa set up an oversized mobile operating theatre in the middle of a lowveld reserve to work on their heavyweight patients, using specially developed 1.4 metre long fibre-optic laparoscopes.

The elephants first had to be darted by an expert game capture team before being manoeuvred to the operating table while suspended upside down from a huge crane. The vasectomies were undertaken to help find an answer to the growing problem of elephant overpopulation in some southern African reserves. Scientific solutions to the problem, such as elephant sterilisation and contraception, are seen as preferable alternatives to culling elephants.

We came across these hairy conservationists on a recent trip to Scotland. See latest work. Hitting the heights, we recently documented gulls and kittiwakes nesting in central Newcastle. A day with the Forestry Commission got us close to some special peregrine chicks.
