About Kwandwe

A conservation success story in the heart of South Africa's malaria-free and easily accessible Eastern Cape, Kwandwe is 22,000 hectares of prime African wilderness flanking the Great Fish River, and home to elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo and rhino (both black and white).

But there's much more than just the 'Big Five' here. Cheetah breed on the reserve, and rare and endangered species include Cape grysbok, black wildebeest, crowned eagle, and the beautiful blue crane.  After dark we might even spot shy nocturnal creatures such as aardvark and aardwolf.

Fascinating flora include the spekboom (or porkbush), a favourite food of elephant, tree euphorbia, poisonous to most animals but adored by black rhino, and aloes, which will be in spectacular bloom when we visit.
